Trump’s Followers Are Now Openly Teaching Their Children Hatred And Bigotry
Republicans have long touted themselves as the part of family values and high moral standards. Those long heal assertions have fallen by the wayside in the age of Trump. As the party can no longer espouse their traditional family values, what are Trump followers teaching their children about the world?
At a recent Trump campaign rally in Montana, the children of Trump’s most ardent supporters demonstrated their parents are sharing their own intense bigotry, ignorance, violence, and authoritarianism with their children.
The crowd at the Montana rally was filled with the president’s most ardent followers, many of whom brought their children to listen to the President of the United States spew hatred and bully adversaries. While the shots taken by the president at the #MeToo movement may have gone over the kids’ heads, the message of fear and hatred certainly stuck.
When asked by a BuzzFeed reporter what issues are important to them, one little girl said “we don’t want Mexicans. No.”
These children who attended the rally explained that one of their top priorities is for the president to build his border wall with Mexico. Why are children so concerned about an archaic means of defense stretching along the southern border from sea to shining sea? According to the children sporting Trump t-shirts and Make America Great Again (MAGA) hats, they want the wall because Mexicans are “overpopulating us.”
Of course, in rural Montana where there are 6 people for every square mile of land and where only 2.89% of residents are of Hispanic descent, it seems unlikely these children have had much if any experience with the people they claim are “overpopulating” them. In fact, they may not have encountered a brown person in their entire lives.
BuzzFeed posted the conversation on Twitter, the video was captioned, “These kids at Trump’s Montana rally said one of the most important things they want the president to do is build his border wall because Mexicans are “overpopulating us”
