Mike Pence Just Flat-Out Admitted He Wants Roe v. Wade Overturned

President Trump announced his nominee to fill Justice Kennedy’s seat on the Supreme Court. Justice Kennedy’s seat will become vacant when he retires at the end of this month. In a dramatic White House ceremony made for prime time television, the president announced he was nominating federal judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.

In the wake of Justice Kennedy’s retirement announcement, there has been increasing fear that the Supreme Court, which is certain to shift to the right, will overturn the landmark case Roe v. Wade. Today, Vice President Mike Pence admitted that he hopes to see Roe v. Wade overturned.

Pence has long opposed abortion and has discussed his hardline belief that all abortion should be illegal. In an interview on CNN the vice president explained President Trump’s approach to choosing a nominee for the Court.

Pence said, “What the president was looking for here was a nominee who will respect the Constitution as written, who will faithfully uphold the constitution in all of his interpretations of the law.”

CNN’s Dana Bash asked Pence, “Do you still want Roe v. Wade to be overturned?”

Pence responded, “Well, I do, but I haven’t been nominated to the Supreme Court.”

Pence continued insisting that neither he nor the president discussed the Roe v. Wade decision with Kavanaugh prior to his nomination. He did, also emphasize the White House’s anti-abortion position.

He continued to defend the nomination saying, “The president believes that the proper consideration for a nominee to the court is not about litmus tests. Frankly, we’ve seen enough of litmus tests over the decades. What we don’t want is people to go to the courts with a specific objective or policy criteria.”

During his presidential campaign, Trump promised to nominate judges who would overturn Roe v. Wade. In fact, he said that if he got 2 nominations Roe v. Wade would be overturned.
