Ivanka And Jared Rake In $82 Million While Working In The White House

First daughter Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner recently filed mandatory financial disclosures. The disclosures were released while all eyes were on Singapore (where the president met with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un).

The aforementioned disclosures show that during 2017, Ivanka and Jared brought in at least $82 million dollars while they served in Donald Trump’s White House. While these filings themselves show numerous conflicts of interest, they are likely incomplete. Kushner made at least 40 updates to his first disclosure after omissions were discovered.

The Trump family has not divested itself from their business endeavors. For example, Ivanka made $3.9 million from the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C. Subsequently, the Trump hotel is a favorite spot of Republicans; GOP candidates and super PACs spend significant amounts of both time and money in the hotel. Essentially, the Republican party is kicking money back to the Trumps by spending at the hotel.

Ivanka also brought in $2 million in salary and severance pay from the Trump Organization and $5 million from her clothing brand; her clothing line has been accused of exploiting Chinese labor.

Interestingly, the president’ recent tariffs will negatively impact Ivanka’s competitors, but will not impact her own business. The machinery used to manufacture clothing in the United States by Ivanka’s competitors will be hit hard by the tariffs. Rick Helfenbein, the chief executive of the American Apparel and Footwear Associations, commented on the tariffs saying “This would directly raise costs on domestic manufacturers and impact our ability to grow Made in USA.”

The tariffs will not impact Ivanka’s clothing line because she manufactures her products overseas, primarily in China.

Jared Kushner’s disclosure showed that he brought in millions from real estate properties nationwide. His disclosure also shows that his assets have grown during his time in the White House from $140 million in April 2017 to $181 million by this spring.

Ivanka and Jared’s growing wealth demonstrates just how profitable the White House is for the Trump family.
