Fox News’ Shepard Smith Mocks Trump: “Maybe We Need A Northern Wall”
On Monday, Shep Smith of Fox News responded to President Trump’s current feud with Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The feud began when the Trump administration announced tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum and intensified during the past weekend’s G7 summit.
Smith commented on the fact that the president has chosen to fight with one of the nation’s closest allies. He said, “The U.S. And Canada are in a fight obviously.” He continued, “The president accusing the country’s prime minister of making false statements and the president’s trade advisers saying there’s a special place in hell for the leader Canada.”
Smith observed that Canada is “one of our best friends.” He said jokingly, “Maybe we need a Northern wall.” Later in the show, Smith complained that Trump is “kicking allies in the teeth.”
Prior to the G7 summit, Trump called for Russia to be re-admitted to the group of world leaders. President Trump further upset world leaders when he announced (via Twitter) the United States’ decision to withdraw from supporting the G7 communique created over the course of the weekend.
The president tweeted on Saturday: “Based on Justin’s false statements at his news conference, and the fact that Canada is charging massive Tariffs to our U.S. farmers, workers and companies, I have instructed our U.S. Reps not to endorse the Communique as we look at Tariffs on automobiles flooding the U.S. Market!”

The president moreover pinned the blame for the G7 debacle on Canada’s Justin Trudeau. Trudeau has publicly repudiated the president’s recent decision to impose steel and aluminum tariffs on his country.
In the aftermath of the president’s withdrawal tweet, his surrogates quickly joined him in railing against Trudeau. Trump economic adviser Larry Kudlow said, Trudeau, “stabbed us in the back.”
Peter Navarro said “there is a special place in hell” for Trudeau.
The European Council President Donald Tusk responded saying “there is a special place in heaven” for Trudeau for his hosting of the G7.
