James Comey Just Slammed ‘Unethical’ Trump On Twitter, After Trump’s Despicable Morning Twitter Tirade
Former FBI Director James Comey tweeted a not-so-subtle jab against a former boss, Donald Trump. Comey writes, “3 presidents are in my book: 2 help illustrate the values at the heart of ethical leadership; 1 serves as a counterpoint.” James Comey served under presidents George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Donald Trump, the last of which issued his dismissal in May of last year.
My book is about ethical leadership & draws on stories from my life & lessons I learned from others. 3 presidents are in my book: 2 help illustrate the values at the heart of ethical leadership; 1 serves as a counterpoint. I hope folks read the whole thing and find it useful.

The statement precedes the release of Comey’s new book, A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership. News outlets have been publishing excerpts of the book since last week. Tonight, Comey will appear on ABC News in an interview with George Stephanopoulos to discuss the book.
One leaked excerpt published by Axios recalls how Comey felt Trump appeared to sit “on a throne” in the Oval Office. In just the type of “counterpoint” example alluded to in his tweet, Comey describes the distinction between Trump’s manner and the other presidents under which the former FBI director served:
“In dozens of meetings in that space with Presidents Bush and Obama, I cannot recall ever seeing them stationed at their desk. They instead sat in an armchair by the fireplace and held meetings in a more open, casual arrangement.”
Posture is one thing, but other passages exude more sinister undertones. For instance, Comey describes his view of the president’s relationship with Vladimir Putin. Comey writes, “I had often wondered why, when given numerous opportunities to condemn the Russian government’s invasions of its neighbors and repression — even murder — of its own citizens, Trump refused to just state the plain facts.”
The president and his communications team are already out in full force in an attempt to discredit the narrative put forth in Comey’s new book. Trump issued a defamatory tweet in his typical style, calling Comey the “WORST FBI Director in history, by far!”
More surprising was the vitriol espoused by press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who minced no words.
“The American people see right through the blatant lies of a self-admitted leaker,” Sanders said to a room full of reporters during the White House morning press briefing. “[His book] is nothing more than a poorly executed P.R. stunt by Comey to desperately rehabilitate his tattered reputation and enrich his own bank account by peddling a book that belongs in the bargain bin of the fiction section instead of being remembered as a dedicated servant in the pursuit of justice like so many of his other colleagues at the FBI.”
Macmillan Publishers will release A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership this Tuesday. The book currently sits in the final slot of Amazon’s Top 20 Most Sold Non-Fiction.
