Members of a Pennsylvania church are going to hold a service to bless AR-15 rifles. That’s not the premise of an old Twilight Zone episode or the newest Saturday Night Live skit. It’s an actual event, planned by Sanctuary Church and Rod of Iron Ministries, offshoots of the Unification church started by Sun Myung Moon and led by Moon’s son, Rev. Sean Moon.
“This will be a big thing for us. It’s a new stage for us because it incorporates the rod of iron, as it is in Revelations. Revelations talks about the returning Christ ruling with the rod of iron,” said Tim Elder. “This rod of iron is the AR-15, in today’s terms.”
Elder is referencing Revelation 2:27.
“And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father,” the King James translation reads. Other translations refer to an “iron scepter” instead of “rod of iron.”
The blessing ceremony will be held in Dreher Township of Northeast Pennsylvania, right down the Wallenpaupack South Elementary School. In a news feature from WNEP, parents noted their fear and disapproval of the event.
In 2015, the Moon family moved their Kahr Firearms factory to nearby Blooming Grove to manufacture the famous prohibition era machine gun, the “Tommy Gun.”
“We are so inspired to be in this land, so different from other states in which we’ve been,” said Reverend Sean Moon, who attended the grand opening.
“We had to look for more gun-friendly state in northeast. Pennsylvania as a large state is most gun-friendly northeastern state,” Justin Moon explained.
“It’s the minority that keeps on saying we have an issue, issue is decided,” Justin Moon went on to argue, adding “we love freedom, we love our guns, we’re not going to give them up.”
