Watch Dutch Reporters Brutalize Trump’s Ambassador Over False Claims About Muslims
America’s reputation around the world started to deteriorate once Donald Trump won the 2016 presidential election, and that new-found animosity was proudly displayed by Dutch reporters when US ambassador to the Netherlands Pete Hoekstra arrived at the country on Tuesday. The reporters viciously went after Hoekstra for his conspiracy-laced comments about Muslims living in their country.
Hoekstra’s remarks came from 2015 when he claimed that there was a “stealth jihad” movement taking place in Europe by “invaders”—his word for refugees. According to The Intercept, Hoekstra said the Netherlands was in a state of “chaos.”
“Cars being burned, there are politicians that are being burned… And yes, there are no-go zones in the Netherlands,” said Hoekstra.
During the recent press conference, a Dutch reporter asked Hoekstra. “Are politicians being burned in the Netherlands…? Is that something you believe, yes or no?” The ambassador refused to answer, but the interrogation was just beginning.
“If you are truly an honest and wise man, would you please take back the remark about burned politicians — or name a politician that was burned in the Netherlands?” Another reporter asked.
“Why don’t you answer the question? This is the Netherlands; you have to answer questions,” came a third.
Hoekstra tried to gain control back, saying he was “moving on” from the anti-refugee rhetoric. But the reporters had no interest in moving on.
“Will you be visiting our ‘no-go areas’?”
Hoekstra tried to use Trump’s “fake news” defense, claiming that he never said that there were politicians on fire or that there were “no-go zones.”
Dutch journalist Christiaan Triebert set the record straight.
@Nieuwsuur to new US ambassador: “You mentioned [..] that there are no go-zones in the Netherlands and that cars and politicians are set on fire.”
Pete Hoekstra: “I didn’t say that. That’s actually an incorrect statement [..] fake news.”
Hmm, let’s have a look at the footage:
Today Dutch press welcomed @petehoekstra as new ambassador to the Netherlands. In 2015 Hoekstra said Dutch"politicians are being burned" (not true). The only one who did get burned today is… Hoekstra himself. By refusing to answer our questions. pic.twitter.com/Dv2aalbhDP

Hopefully, every country will do this to Trump’s cronies. It’s what they all deserve.
