According to a new poll from Winthrop University, three out of four Black Americans said racial minorities are currently under attack in the United States.” However, this bleak view isn’t unfounded, and not just because of how President Trump defended Nazis and made a racist the Attorney General.
In that same poll, three out of ten white southerners believe that America needs to protect and preserve its white European heritage. And while half of the respondents said they did not agree with this sentiment, the other half said that they were under attack.
Winthrop conducted the poll in eleven Southern states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia, from October 22 and November 5, consisting of 830 residents.
Their results are very similar to a poll Reuters ran in September, finding:
- 31% strongly or somewhat agreed that the country needs to “protect and preserve its White European heritage.”
- 39% of respondents strongly or somewhat agreed with the statement that “white people are currently under attack in this country.”
But as the Root said, “Whites are more likely to receive business loans, pay lower interest rates than blacks with the same credit history and are more likely to own homes (the No. 1 wealth asset).” They also reminded that “Blacks are arrested more often for drug offenses than whites even though they use at the same rates. Blacks are stopped by police more than whites. Blacks are searched by cops more than whites. Whites receive much lighter sentences when they commit the same crimes as blacks or Hispanics, according to every study ever done (you can read this one in the New York Times).”
White Americans believe that whiteness needs to be protected. So why did they elect an Orange American to the White House?
